Google announced it will shut down Gizomo next week.  Another service that has been put to sleep. Here is a letter from Google to theGizmo users telling them that the service is being shutdown and that they can request a refund or transfer their credit...

Gizmo5 is writing to let you know that we will no longer be providing service starting on April 3, 2011. A week from today, March 11, 2011, you will no longer be able to add credit to your account.

Yesterday Facebook announced the purchase of Beluga, a company formed by 3 prior Google employees:
Ben Davenport, Co-founder / CEO, helped build AdSense and MSN Explorer
Lucy Zhang, Co-founder / President worked on applications at Google such as AdWords
Jonathan Perlow, Co-founder / CTO, was the lead for Gmail, Google talk among others

Beluga has developed a series of different text messaging applications. Currently these applications work on iPhone, Android and on the PC desktop. Beluga basically sends out text messages to contacts in "pods" that have been setup. Each member in the pod can receive updates in the form of text or pictures. When a message is sent to the pod, every contact gets updated. CrispApp released Facebook Messenger app few days ago. This app is a great messenger application. It allows you to chat with your online friends on Facebook. You can also initiate a voip call to your online friends on Facebook. There are limitations to this app, you cannot call mobile or landlines. So what do you think about this app? Skype's new service will allow you to make calls from your mobile phone without connecting to wifi.
